Welcome to Northside Neighborhoods

Many neighborhoods off Hermitage Road and Brooklyn Parkway were originally served by the streetcar system implemented around 1890. Notably, Ginter Park was the project of Richmonder Lewis Ginter who after visiting Australia dreamed of a streetcar suburb where workers could retreat from the city to the country in 15 minutes every evening. Ginter, an avid gardener for whom the botanical gardens are named, planted thousands of trees and shrubs in his new neighborhood. Other neighborhoods include Roselawn, Belleview, Virginia Place, Barton Heights, and Highland Springs. Architectural styles include the classic American four-square, Colonial, Tudor, and Arts and Crafts homes.
