Founded around 1800 North Church Hill and Union Hill are north of Broad Street from Church Hill ‘proper’. Houses are constructed of clapboard, brick, and stone and styles include Greek Revival, Italianate with cottages, and other styles mixed in. The most defining feature of Union Hill is the street system which follows the hilly terrain. Streets intersect at angles and blocks can slope dramatically from one end to the other. Its houses are smaller, ranging from cottages to row houses noted for their porches and wooden fences. It makes for a quaint and quirky area much loved by its residents. Its cornerstone is Jefferson Park with great city views.
